Dearest Readers,

I love a good back story...do you?! Do read on if you would like to know how I have come to be where I am today.

After being born in Derbyshire, my family moved to Plymouth, where I grew up with fond memories of eating chips on The Barbican and throwing pebbles into the sea at Jennycliff. On leaving school I studied for my A Levels at Plymouth College of Further Education and then spent a year at Plymouth College of Art and Design, fulfilling some creative tendencies and getting messy with all matter of art materials.

Leaving for University came around quickly, and after watching my tearful mum leave for the train back to Plymouth after helping me settle in at Southampton Solent University, I spent three years studying for my degree in Journalism. Six months of that time was spent living in Alicante, where I completed the Erasmus programme, which gave me wanderlust, and I spent most of that time drinking Sangria, eating Tapas, and planning future trips. My years at Southampton Solent were definitely my formative years, and just after graduating I was lucky enough to meet Nick, who later became my husband.

Shortly after finishing my degree, I decided to further my education, and while friends were studying for their Master's degrees, I went back to college and spent two years at Peter Symonds College Adult Education in Winchester, studying Complementary and Beauty Therapies. I can't count the conversations that I've had over the years explaining this stage in my life, but I knew that a passion for writing and the health and beauty industry would work beautifully together - I just needed to find a way to make it work for me!

At college I met Pamela Trodd, who was a teacher, and then a mentor and now a close friend. When she opened The Therapy Studio in Southampton, she asked me to join her to offer treatments from the secondary room - it was an offer I couldn't refuse, and I worked there for 8 years before moving to my treatment room at home.

I had been happily working as a therapist for 3 years, when an opportunity arose to write the health and beauty pages for Hampshire Life Magazine, and since then, every month you'll find my features and articles in the Style section, and I've covered such a wide variety of topics including mental health to party Make-up looks and travel features. I currently write the Beauty Spot news page every month. Visit the Journalism page to see examples of my work.

So today, you will find me living in Woolston, Southampton with my husband Nick and our rescue two cats, Bella and Louie. I'm a bit obsessed with reading magazines and keeping up with the news, and I let my creative tendencies run riot sometimes by learning to knit, or getting the sewing machine out. When we're not at home, we're visiting family in Devon, Suffolk or Wales.
