Beauty

My passion for beauty came at a young age. My grandma expertly applied her make-up every day, and I used to stand and watch her apply it from a make-up bag she kept on the fridge. She always stood in the same spot in her kitchen to apply it because the light was better in there. Bright red lipstick was her favourite look.

As a teenager, I remember pulling out a booklet from Looks magazine. It was like a step-by-step guide to pampering, with top to toe tips on manicures, pedicures and facials. I spent many evenings following each and every step, and as the booklet became ragged, I became well versed in my little pampering sessions. My favourite was a facial routine, and my mum knew what I was up to when I trotted back and forth to the kitchen to collect bowls of steaming hot water and flannels, and I steamed, scrubbed and massaged my spotty skin into submission. The make-up looks were another favourite, although the nineties were not forgiving - it was all smokey eyes, blue nail polish, and Heather Shimmer lipstick by Rimmel!
